I will acknowledge some of your educated points. However, your use of slanderous City vest statements the paper is regurgitating on a daily basis at this point is poor. You are on a decent track aside from your blatant disrespect for MY home town. The man this building is named after Walter G. Sterling is a self made success story built right here on the soil that holds the coal we raised an industrial revolution from. He risked his life traveling around the America's as a true '49er' to return and continue banking and enhancing our economy. The Sterling built of the lime stone bed which our county sits on, is the same strong figure. Built here, by our people, with hammers, nails, and hand tools. This building represented the most grand hotel not just in Wilkes Barre, but it was known as "The Hotel of the East" competing with New York City hotels. It is the only location in Wilkes Barre which was a Hollywood in it's day, housing all the most famous actors/actresses of the Vaudville days. It's also housed John F. Kennedy, The Roosevelts, Louie Armstrong, and OUR grandparents. This building has stood when multiple bridges and even a ferry once crossed the Susquehanna. It survived the Agnes tropical storm which was considered the worst natural disaster of it's time. It was expanding during The Great Depression, and keeping Wilkes Barre's economy alive. Now Luzerne County Currution gets it's hands on this 'unwanted property' How? Congressmen Kanjorski well known for events like the 9 million dollar 'tech' company he funded for his nephew, who rented the facility off Cong. Kanjorski..then went bankrupt...Cong. Kanjorski forms Cityvest of select individuals all playing integral roles. Note how Todd Vanderheid plays his role with the original sale of the Perry Block properties to the Lulls his personal friends. Note how the Lulls bail out of town never to return, Todd Vonderheid turns his back on them. Mayor Leighton you may know from the Kids for Cash scandal voting yes on the 58 million dollar Juvenile Center. Resigning this year from his 200k a year job with the W B Chamber....Thomas O' Hara links with people like Judd Shoval, ever see the King's Shoval Center?? Thomas is another one about to resign from his position as President of King's College.....Starting to see a trend here? The Perry Block building was purchased for 3xx,xxx and demolished for 303k with a lien. PLUS the back taxes. The building was given to City vest with no concern for the lien which would have been the Lulls (personal friends of Vonderheid) responsibility. Strange? How did they get that building with out that being payed up front? How did they get that building with out paying the taxes up front? As a matter of a fact how did they get the Sterling in the first place with out paying that 2 million in taxes? Oh wait, they acquired 10 million dollars in funds to RESTORE THE STERLING HOTEL. Which they we're then able to give out to purchase additional properties (what was the rush?! The whole block is vacant and struggling and no one will buy any property? Not even today as there are 5 pieces of property including the cityvest chunk) They used 10 million dollars in funds given to RESTORE the hotel for (check there itemized expenditures although likely to be fluffed like a High school football team player's height and weight stats)They paid for Salaries of high payed pencil pushers to MANAGE (although cityvest was the property managers) They had a contest and PAID thousands of dollars of OUR money to the 3 finalists to make a plan for restoration. They we're quoted in an article 12/14/03 Times Leader They will give up to 30k per firm. Just shy of 100k played with like it was a TV game show. They agreed to pay Lincoln Co. salaries which lead to approx 520,000 for such EXPERT services as recommending they DO NOT moth ball the hotel. Recommending that they DO NOT repair every window in the Sterling, the Plaza, and the connecting building for 39,xxx in 2003. So Cityvest is OK with paying over half a million dollars to a company which ultimately advised the BEST POSSIBLE WAY to neglect a historic landmark. I AM NOT OK with that, if I pay for a service it better meet, or exceed my expectations or there will be hell to pay. Moreover, as an adult you should have enough common sense to understand no windows teamed up with a roof in rough condition are bad news. If restoration was EVER a true goal of this company, NOT IMMEDIATELY stopping damage to existing property, or further damage to existing property would only hinder the progress, and create even higher restoration estimates. This was quoted at 170,xxx possibly including the brand new windows, if not your just over 200,000 and the building is being preserved properly. This is the process our Chamber used to preserve the Sterling Annex next door, and the Masonic Temple on Franklin St (both owned by the Chamber) These two buildings, in addition to the old Springbrook Water Co. building on N. Franklin ( Judd Shoval looked into purchasing this for his personal business, but declined due to historical regulations which must be followed when restoring/renovating historic buildings, this is something most people don't know or consider) Want some more shady dealings in this scandal? The parking lot they claim to have paid 640,000 for. I can't find a record for this transaction. I can however find some information that shows eminent domain was used as the city condemned the lot, and then GAVE it to Cityvest, find me a contract for this transaction.. What is the public purpose there? It's been given to a private company. How did they conndemn a parking lot, take it, and hand it to Cityvest for use as a parking lot? Now look at The Sterling Annex, owned by the County Chamber (also owns the Irem Temple) both properly mothballed, sealed, and happily Newman of the Chamber says. The springbrook Water Co. building is owned by the County. This opens an insane chunk of prime realty when all these historical buildings are destroyed. Will it be worth over 11 million dollars as an open lot? NO WAY! Will anyone ever pay that? NO WAY! What does that mean? It means they will forgive all this money because Cityvest will claim bankruptcy as they we're a fall-out company to begin with. The money was filtered through them to acquire properties, demolish and keep sucking up funds while available. Where did these funds get there power to come from? Not a company like cityvest with 2 little fluff renovations. Congressman Kanjorski plain and simple. Now he's out of office, the power play has ended. Cityvest has squandered all our money in tv game show contests, and salaries to pay people to instruct the intentional neglect and ultimate destruction of our most prized historical landmark. Note the chairs, or officials or whatever the Cityvest criminals are calling themselves have announced that 3 of their peers have resigned, O'Hara is resigning, Leighton is resigning, The Lulls left town after there shady deal was done. The pattern speaks clear. The crooks are fleeing the scene of the crime. Getting out of the public eye before this catches up with them. Do you also realize Mericle is tied in with the real estate end of this? As a matter of fact did you know Mericle is selling the County owned Springbrook Water Co. building? The goal here is destroy the most historic, the most valuable, take the one EVERYONE should be fighting for, take the head of the snake...and the rest will fall. They knew this would require many years of intentional neglect as shown by City vest declining the sealing, and roof repairs in 2003 TWICE, and again a year and month later in 2004. In 2011 we are going to discuss how far gone it is? NO WE NEED TO DISCUSS how far gone to prison all these individuals need to be. We need to discuss the rebate of 10 million dollars plus interest which should be the responsibility of all those found guilty in the criminal cases brought against those in the embezzlement, curruption, intentional destruction of property, vandalism ( with fines suitable to the levels of damage caused to the Sterling over the last 10 years) The political parties involved should all be removed from offices (if they all aren't resigned and hiding some where by the time this case makes it into court, or on CNN) Another thing you may not know Cityvest has been selling PRICELESS pieces of the Sterling hotel over the last 10 years. Further driving the cost of restoration up, if it was EVER a goal of this company. These pieces need to be valued by historical societies and they need to be part of the criminal charges that's theft, and being a part of such a historical structure would also need to be recovered, or replaced and if they couldn't be replaced the fines would also have to suit the nature of the level of disrespect, and clear sign of there plans for destruction from day one. While we as Wilkes Barre residents read these articles for 10 years being blatantly lied to by these parties. I like how Alex Rogers is quoted saying he doesn't get paid for being in Cityvest, but the Auditor General has a report with his salary in it. That's strange. Now on to my personal situation with you owner of this blog whoever you are. You are drinking WAY to much media kool-aid right now. Take a step back from the hype for destruction. Go back through the history go to the Court House and do some research. Kanjorski and Cityvest wanted to take our money and live off it, let associates and friends live off it, and eventually tear everything down as a part of Kanjorskis inflatable dam river front money pit. They knew eventually the money would run out and the building would have to be torn down. HOWEVER, they could have done what they promised the people. They could have done what we we're led to believe was the target of our 10 Million dollars. The restoration of our culture. The most historic landmark in our City to be open once more. One man with a hammer and nails could have done more for the Sterling then all of Cityvest and all it's salaried firms accomplished in 10 years by himself. I know this because I live in the Valley where work is what people pride themselves in. This place has the hardest workers of anywhere I've ever been. They invested in acquisition of additional properties, taxes, and demolition which of them relates to RESTORATION? NOT A ONE. So they didn't invest in the restoration of the Sterling at all. They are giving extreme quotes, and outrageous existing damage reports because they need to TERRIFY people into thinking it is too far gone. They can't have investors invest, because then the plan won't reach full circle. Full circle is when they say they tore it all down, now we need to tear these other buildings down and FORGIVE ALL THE 11+ million and start from scratch They will sell that lot for what? 2 million if they are seriously lucky. THEY WILL WASH AWAY THE ENTIRE DEBT, LETTING THE CITYVEST CRIMINALS WALK AWAY SCOTT FREE. That is my personal issue with your blog. Furthermore, you seem intelligent enough to get pisst off by my points, and I hope you'll do some serious research and when you find out some truths and be a part of Saving the Sterling. We need people like you helping us, not slandering a building made of limestone which has stood for 114 years with out a single structural flaw. Including those sexy marble pillars out on Market St. which have stood there in weather for 114 years, through the floods, and still look beautiful. The exterior still looks good (on the lime stone sides any how) The now fully visible rear/sides aren't that attractive, nor where they visible prior to Cityvest dumping our restoration money into demolition. If the pillars and the limestone are still so strong, and beautiful after 114 years of outside life. What makes you think the TRUE structure of the building, what makes it stand, what makes it a building built in 1897 vs. a building built today isn't in just as good of condition? Well I've got news for you, It is 100% sound. If we stand for this building like it stood for Wilkes Barre. It'll be there for hundreds of years to come. The building is priceless, and the sooner people get out from behind that8 ball that people feel like the Luzerne county is, the better. The Sterling was grand, it's still great, and in the future it can be even more then that. Because it can be functional once more, and it will revitalize the downtown area if preserved. If they tear it down the hole it leaves will never be filled, the 11+ million will be forgiven as Cityvest goes bankrupt. We lose our money, and we lose our historical landmark. For that statement alone don't you want to fight to get the awareness up enough that we get some real investigation going on here by some national media, or the IRS, FBI, I don't know. Someone will hear of this if we push hard enough, and we must continue to pray that it will happen before the building is destroyed, because once it's gone it will never come back. So you want to know why we stand in front of that building? To raise public awareness of the scandal. Let people know that if they tear the building down we don't get our money back. We have to give them an additional million. Meaning the 10 wasn't enough to COMPLETELY FAIL. They need another million to do that. We stand out there because if we lose faith we have nothing to live for. We stand out there because if we won't stand for something, then we are sheep and we will fall for everything.

If you would like to see photos of the interior, or read about the history stop by the many face book pages, or go to google and do some research. The Hotel Sterling is a one-of building with an epic history, a guest list compiled of some of histories all time greats, and the strength to stand for over 100 years, through all economies, and the worst floods. She will continue to stand for another 100 years, if we stand for her.
